TRANSITIONS, PRECISION & LIGHTNESS
During this intensive, I will simply share with you the way I love to dance! As the name says: “Transitions, Precision & Lightness” – describes well my interests in dance, and in life.
We will flow in and out of contact, viewing the dance as a playful dialogue, which breaths freely in time and space. Maintaining awareness and presence will help us to expand the choices and possibilities in our dance. We will cultivate conscious listening, breathing, giving and receiving.
During the classes, we will work both technically – focusing on understanding the underlying physical principles of contact improvisation – and experientially – widening the trust in our instincts, impulses and intuition. We will evoke a deeper understanding of how our bodies function: how the joints, bones, muscles and fascia function.
Some of the movement principles we will employ are informed by developmental movement patterns, release technique, and floorwork. The intensive will develop slowly from inside out, gradually passing through levels from floor to standing, using the natural spirals of the body, getting familiar with three-dimensionality and being upside-down. The material will alternate between contact- and solo tasks, towards group composition and space.
Within specific exercises, we explore tools and principles that are helpful in contact improvisation, such as weight sharing, centre-to-centre, leaning and supporting, rolling and sliding…
We will explore falling; using momentum, acceleration, suspension, swing and bounce to create easy lifts and flights through space! Spinning off our dances into freedom and our individuality to reconnect again.
Inviting lightness and spaciousness to our dancing we will look for ways of distributing our weight intelligently, exploring ways of organising our body structures in movement.
We will research our biggest organ – the fascia -that allows us to communicate directions in sensitive and delicate ways. We will explore ways of fine-tuning and subtle precision, breathing in and out of contact.
