AN INTRODUCTION TO CONSENT CULTURE IN CI
Consent Culture normalizes asking for and receiving consent. It actively opposes rape culture and is conscious of how power dynamics affect one’s ability to consent. Practicing Consent Culture not only develops our awareness of others, it develops our self-awareness and our power to assert ourselves. So if we want to make our CI spaces more inclusive and accessible and safe, we need to learn how to use our privileges and challenge power structures. We will start by strengthening our “no muscle” by tuning in with ourselves and practicing setting and receiving boundaries. We will also move with and through Megan Emerson´s Stages of Consent Culture for Dance Communities and learn about the bystander-effect.
